Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mammaplasty) is typically performed to enhance the size and shape of women's breasts. It is accomplished by surgically inserting an artificial implant under the breast tissue and pectoralis muscle.

Procedure:

  • An incision is made either in the armpit, around the areola, or under the breast. The implant is placed either behind the muscles between the breast and chest wall or behind the breast tissue. The surgery usually takes 1-2 hours. Procedure is performed in an operating room as an outpatient.

Side Effects:

  • Temporary soreness, swelling, bruising, change in nipple sensation.

Recovery:

  • Back to work 3-4 days.
  • Scar fading 6 months - 1 year or more.
  • Patient must wear a post-operative bra for 4 weeks.

Fees:

  • $5500 and up.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy) is a surgical procedure performed to raise and reshape sagging breasts. Many women elect to have this procedure after having children or losing a considerable amount of weight and their breasts have lost their shape.

Procedure:

  • The surgeon will remove excess skin and reposition the nipple and areola to a higher position. This procedure takes 1-2 hours and is performed in an operating room as an outpatient.

Side Effects:

  • Temporary bruising, swelling, soreness, numbness.

Recovery:

  • Back to work in 1 week.
  • More strenuous activity 1 month.
  • Fading scars several months to a year.

Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty) is performed for physical relief for patients with overlarge, sagging breasts which may cause back pain, deformities of the back and shoulders, postural problems, skin rashes under the breast and breast pain . Patients should be at or near their ideal body weight.

Procedure:

  • The procedure involves removing excess breast tissue and skin, repositioning the nipple and areola and reshaping the new contour of the breast. The surgery usually takes 3-4 hours and is performed in an operating room as an outpatient or with an overnight stay.

Side Effects:

  • Swelling and bruising, loss of sensation of nipples and breast skin is possible but may improve gradually.

Recovery:

  • Back to work 7-10 days.
  • No strenuous activity 2-4 weeks.
  • Breast sore 2-4 weeks.
  • Drains in place 3-10 days.
  • Must wear post-operative bra for 4 weeks.

Male breast reduction (Gynecomastia) is performed on men with enlarged female-like breasts.

Procedure:

  • This procedure involves removing the breast tissue through an incision around the areola or by liposuction. The procedure usually takes 1-2 hours and it is performed in the operating room as an outpatient.

Side Effects:

  • Swelling, bruising and numbness.

Recovery:

  • Back to work 5-7 days.
  • More strenuous activity at 1 month.
  • Patient must wear compression garment for 3-4 weeks.
