Botox
Conveniently located to serve St. Louis
Botox® is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment used to soften dynamic facial wrinkles and refresh a patient’s appearance without downtime. Patients seeking Botox® in St. Louis can visit the practice of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Rottler, where treatments are performed by expert nurse injector Julie Beffa, RN. Botox® sessions are quick, customizable, and designed to help patients look naturally rejuvenated while maintaining normal facial expressions.
What Is Botox®?
Botox® is a neuromodulator made from botulinum toxin that works by temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles responsible for expression lines and dynamic wrinkles. As the muscles relax, the overlying skin appears smoother and more refreshed.
Botox® is commonly used to treat multiple cosmetic and functional concerns, including:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines between the brows
- Crow’s feet
- Bunny lines on the nose
- Nostril flaring
- Enlarged jawline from teeth grinding
- Excess underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis)
- Migraine symptoms
Botox® is not ideal for moderate to harsh lines around the nose and mouth, including marionette lines, parentheses lines, and nasolabial folds (smile lines). It cannot restore volume to the cheeks or be used as a lip filler. For these cosmetic uses, consider the many injectable dermal filler products we offer.
Is Botox® Right For Me?
Good candidates for Botox® are healthy adults who want to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movements. Many patients choose Botox® to address early signs of aging before deeper lines become more pronounced. Patients with realistic expectations who want noticeable yet subtle improvement are often excellent candidates.

The Procedure
During your Botox® session, your chosen treatment areas are carefully evaluated while you make facial expressions to identify the specific muscles responsible for these wrinkles and folds. The skin is then cleansed, and the injection points are marked to guide treatment placement.
A few tiny injections are then administered to relax the muscles and keep them relaxed for up to four months. Most patients tolerate the treatment well, though a topical numbing cream may be applied if desired. The procedure typically takes only a few minutes, making it convenient for busy schedules.
After Botox® Sessions
Recovery after Botox® injections is minimal. Most patients return to work and everyday activities immediately after treatment, without requiring any lengthy downtime. Mild redness, swelling, or slight bruising at the injection sites may occur temporarily but usually resolves quickly.
Patients are generally advised to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure, and alcohol for a short period after treatment to minimize swelling and bruising. It is also important to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas immediately after injections.
The effects of Botox® typically last three to four months before maintenance treatments are needed to preserve results.
