Tummy Tuck in St. Louis
Conveniently located to serve St. Louis
Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, in St. Louis is performed to help patients achieve a firmer, flatter abdominal shape. Paul Rottler, MD, FACS, uses this body procedure to give both men and women the aesthetically pleasing midsection they deserve.
What Is Abdominoplasty Used to Correct?
Tummy tuck surgery addresses multiple concerns, including loose skin, separated abdominal muscles, and stubborn fat. Sometimes, liposuction may be necessary to remove the abdominal fat. A mini tummy tuck, which uses just one short horizontal incision, is also an option for patients with minimal loose skin and fat deposits located solely below the navel.
Good Candidates for Abdominoplasty
You may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck if you are at or near a healthy BMI but have one or more of the following conditions:
- Excess or sagging abdominal skin
- An abdomen that protrudes and is out of proportion with the rest of the body
- Abdominal muscles that have been separated and weakened after multiple pregnancies
- Excess fatty tissue that is concentrated in your midsection
If you plan to become pregnant or lose more weight in the future, discuss this with Dr. Rottler. Patients should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about their results.

The Procedure
A general anesthetic is administered so that you’re asleep throughout the procedure. Next, a horizontal incision is placed just within or above the pubic area. The length of the incision, which extends laterally toward the pelvic bones, depends largely on the amount of skin to be removed. Dr. Rottler will try to keep the incision within your bathing suit lines, but this may not always be possible.
During a full tummy tuck, he will then make a second incision around the navel so that the skin above it can be pulled down. The excess abdominal skin is then removed. The position of the navel remains unchanged. The abdominal muscles are also tightened with sutures at this time.
A tummy tuck usually takes 2-5 hours to complete and can often be performed at our convenient and accredited operating facility: Seven Oaks Surgery Center, LLC. Once the surgery is done, you’ll be taken to a recovery area where you will continue to be closely monitored.
The Recovery Process
The day after your tummy tuck, you are strongly encouraged to get out of bed for short walks to promote blood circulation. Patients must not stand up completely straight for 1-2 weeks. Straining, bending, and lifting must be avoided, since these activities might cause increased swelling or even bleeding.
Most patients can return to office work within 2-4 weeks, but should continue to avoid strenuous activities until 4-6 weeks post-op. Recovery varies among individuals, but patients can usually expect mild to moderate swelling, bruising, soreness, and weakness for several weeks or months. As the swelling subsides, you should begin to see the results of your abdominoplasty.
Far Better Than Expected
My tummy tuck results are far better than I even expected they would be. Dr Rottler was very informative and made me feel comfortable and made sure I was aware of all aspects of my procedure. All my follow up appointments were set prior to the procedure. The staff and Dr made me feel very relaxed before and the follow up care was amazing. Dr Rottler personally called to ask how I was feeling the night of my procedure and the next day. He went over aftercare again and made sure I was staying as comfortable with pain and discomfort as possible. I’ve heard of other Dr wanting to see you in person the day after, I was glad to send in pictures and not go into the office until 1 week post op.
